TheLeafOnline.com is the offspring of two legendary and influential cannabis-themed newspapers, Oaksterdam News (2005-2007) and The West Coast Leaf (WCL, 2008-2013).
Oaksterdam News was published by Richard Lee, designed and edited by Chris Conrad and managed by Jaime Galindo throughout its print run, based in Oaksterdam (Oakland, California USA). Lee ran several dispensaries and other properties in Oakland, founded Oaksterdam University and was popularly known as “The Mayor of Oaksterdam.” He funded legalization measures such as Oakland’s Measure Z campaign and California Prop 19, narrowly defeated at the ballot box in 2010. His operations were raided and shut down by the DEA in 2012. His activist story was chronicled in the award-winning, independent film, American Pot Story: Oaksterdam.
